Kaylub Giamanco, a father praised for his courageous actions during a tragic Oregon school shooting, contacted authorities prior to confronting the gunman. A recording of the 911 call, released recently, captures the critical moments as the event unfolded.

Someone’s at the school, at my daughters’ school with a gun. I have a gun, and I will shoot them right now if I have to,

Giamanco, 36, reported during the initial stages of the October 15 incident. His daughters were inside Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, when he witnessed the attacker begin his assault. Fortunately, his children survived.

The gunman, described as a 16-year-old, tragically killed three young students, ages 5, 8, and 11, along with a 25-year-old teacher. Giamanco acted swiftly, entering the school with his handgun and stopping the shooter.

The 911 call, lasting approximately 80 seconds, illustrates the immediate panic as the gunman initially fired at a vehicle. Giamanco, reacting to the sight of the shooter scaling the school’s fence after tossing his weapon over, went for his own gun.

Giamanco’s first exclamation upon calling 911 was, “Oh my God.” When pressed for information by the dispatcher, he urgently conveyed, “Silver Rail Elementary! Silver Rail Elementary!”

The dispatcher inquired for his phone number and whether he recognized the shooter. Giamanco responded, This is my daughters’ school. I’m about to go kill this kid. Despite not knowing the shooter’s identity, Giamanco described feeling compelled to act.

The conversation continued with Giamanco emphasizing urgency, stating the shooter was inside the school as shots were fired. The call concluded after the dispatcher sought a description of the shooter, with Giamanco expressing the gravity of the situation.

The dispatcher assured Giamanco that assistance was on its way.
