Florida State’s Victory Over Boston College Marks New Era

2 hours ago 0

Florida State Seminoles opened the Rick Stockstill era with a road victory, defeating Boston College 31-24. This win broke a long dry spell, as the Seminoles had not secured an away game win since November 25, 2023.

Amari Thomas made decisive contributions with two rushing touchdowns. His 11-yard run late in the fourth quarter sealed the win. This performance marked a promising start for Stockstill as the interim coach.

Quarterback Ashton Daniels completed 15 of 26 passes for 178 yards but also threw an interception. His efforts helped maintain the team’s momentum.

Boston College’s quarterback, Mason McKenzie, accounted for 166 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Despite being temporarily sidelined, McKenzie returned to execute a noteworthy trick play involving an underhanded pass for a two-yard touchdown to Javarius Green.

This was emotional for me today,” said a teary-eyed Stockstill, reflecting on his connection to legendary FSU coach Bobby Bowden.

Florida State, playing after the dismissal of coach Mike Norvell, overcame a 17-7 deficit by scoring twice before halftime. Thomas’s 20-yard touchdown narrowed the gap, showing the team’s resilience.

Boston College sought to rebound from a 47-2 loss in their previous game. They plan to face No. 11 Notre Dame in their upcoming match.

Overall, the game showcased the Seminoles’ determination and Stockstill’s impactful leadership.
