Russian forces also made landfall in the coastal city of Mariupol, while large contingents progressed toward Kyiv. Fierce combat erupted nationwide, notably in Kyiv, as the Russian air force targeted significant urban areas and essential infrastructure.

Many experts initially anticipated a swift collapse of Ukrainian defenses; however, Ukraine’s military resistance was unexpectedly robust. Since the onset of the conflict, the United States has allocated billions of dollars in aid to support Ukraine. In efforts to find a resolution, U.S. President Donald Trump has engaged in discussions with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, holding meetings domestically and on the international stage.
