Unconventional Offer: Trump Proposes Press Secretary Role to Dana White

1 hour ago 0

President Donald Trump has proposed an unexpected appointment for the position of White House press secretary. On Saturday, Trump announced he had offered the role to Dana White, head of the UFC, and his long-time friend. The president shared this news from his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

White, who attended a boxing event in London that day, confirmed the offer at a news conference. He indicated plans to meet Trump at the White House on Monday. When asked about balancing his current roles with the potential new position, White appeared unsure but acknowledged his busy schedule.

Trump’s social media post praised White, calling him a ‘violent Fighter and Warrior’. White reacted to the post by sharing an image on Instagram, standing at the White House press briefing podium with the caption: ‘On to the next chapter.’

The White House and UFC representatives did not respond to inquiries about the post. Trump expressed a wish for White to include several UFC fighters as ‘assistants’, remarking on the need for protection against political adversaries.

Despite White’s unclear stance on becoming the president’s chief spokesperson, he has expressed ambitions to expand Zuffa Boxing with backing from Saudi Arabia. Trump’s proposal occurs during a turbulent period for his administration, following significant losses in the recent midterm elections.

Additionally, Trump has replaced his adviser, Susie Wiles, with Stephen Miller as chief of staff. Miller is recognized for crafting the administration’s strict immigration policies. This internal change comes after Katie Zacharia’s brief term as press secretary, lasting only five days, following Karoline Leavitt’s departure in August.

Trump and White have a longstanding friendship, with Trump frequently attending UFC events. In June, White was part of the celebrations at the White House’s South Lawn, marking both America’s 250th year and Trump’s 80th birthday.

White has spoken at several Republican National Conventions, further highlighting his political connections.
