Blue Angels Pilot Removed from Team for Not Meeting Standards

2 hours ago 0

A pilot from the Navy’s Blue Angels, Maj. Scott Laux, was recently dismissed from the team for not maintaining the expected standards. This resulted in the squadron performing with only five jets instead of the usual six at a recent event.

Maj. Laux, who served two years with the Blue Angels, was identified as the opposing solo, Blue Angel No. 6. The Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) confirmed his removal was due to failing to meet the expectations of the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron. This decision was publicized before the season finale in Pensacola.

In July, a low flyover at Pensacola Beach by the Blue Angels caused debris, such as tents and beach chairs, to be swept into the air. Maj. Laux defended these demonstrations, stating they have the public’s trust and aim to perform safely despite the incident. This flyover had led to no direct reprimands or firings according to statements by Navy and War Department leaders at the time.

Maj. Laux’s biography and photo have been removed from the Blue Angels’ website, and he did not participate in the recent NAS Pensacola Homecoming Air Show. His absence required adjustments in routines performed by the remaining jets. Reports indicate Lt. Commander Ronny Hafeza, the 2026 narrator, may take his place in 2027.

Maj. Laux, originally from Chantilly, Va., completed his education at the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in Chinese and received his aviator wings in 2015. His service includes flying F/A-18 Hornets and the F-35C Lightning II. During his military career, he has accumulated over 1,300 flight hours and completed 169 aircraft carrier landings. His commendations include two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and several unit awards.
