Friendship Bench DC provides a unique approach to mental health support. David Robinson, along with Guy Molock, has engaged in weekly conversations for nearly two months. Molock reflects on his own youth, wishing for someone to confide in and now aiming to fulfill that role for others.
Robinson often wished for someone to share his thoughts with but found the opportunity lacking. He recognized the stigmas around traditional mental health therapy, especially among Black men. These include fears of judgment and the shame of revealing personal stories. Such concerns also made him hesitant to open up to those he already knew.
