Fitness influencer and trainer Mark Langowski, known to his followers as @bodybymark, organized a pushup and plank competition in New York City. This event aimed to motivate people to stay active by showcasing achievable fitness challenges.
Langowski, with nearly two million followers on Instagram, invites people to share their workout routines. His recent meeting at Washington Square Park, supported by Oikos yogurt, allowed him to connect with fitness enthusiasts in person.
The winners of the competition, a male and a female participant who excelled in performing the most pushups or holding a plank the longest, each received $500.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Langowski highlighted the purpose of the event. “This encourages strength and overall fitness not only in New York City but across the country,” he said. He shared that one participant completed 111 pushups, showcasing the spirit of getting people moving.
According to Langowski, a great competitor must have strength, humility, and confidence. He explained, “The ones who did the most didn’t boast about it, whereas some who claimed to do 150 only managed 70.”
He emphasized that pushups and planks serve as effective measures for fitness levels. Other forms, such as pull-ups, squats, and endurance activities like running, are also fundamental for assessing individual fitness.
For people new to fitness, Langowski offered practical advice. He suggested starting with pushups on knees or against a wall before gradually progressing to standard pushups. “You’ll surprise yourself after consistent practice,” he assured, noting that no one starts with immense strength but builds it over time.
Langowski stressed the importance of rest, proper protein intake, and a healthy diet to support muscle growth. Motivation remains central to beginning a fitness journey. “Start with a simple walk or home exercises. Many people I meet don’t have gym memberships but stay active at home,” Langowski encouraged.
Supporting the idea of socialization in fitness, he recommended finding friends or trainers to ensure safety and motivation. “Just start, and look for someone to support you,” he advised.
