Adults Overcoming Challenges to Learn Cycling

1 month ago 0

Bike New York offers free classes aimed at teaching adults how to ride bicycles. These classes reveal that many beginners, particularly women, feel nervous and embarrassed about learning to ride. The classes promote skill development in a supportive environment.

Lauren Rosenfield recalls her own challenges with learning to ride a bike. She celebrates each success in McCarren Park, where the classes are held.

Stephanie Yeh had a traumatic biking incident as a child, causing her to avoid bicycles for decades. Now in her late 30s, she joined other adults at McCarren Park to attempt cycling again on Mother’s Day.

Rimu Byadya, another participant and a mother of two, decided to tackle biking as a personal gift to herself. She humorously mentioned that both her husband and a colleague had tried and failed to teach her cycling, which drew laughter from the group.

In the classes, beginners start without pedals, allowing them to focus on balance without the added challenge of propulsion.
