Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark took center stage at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday as the grand marshal. Clips shared by the Fever showed her engaging with fans at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In one noteworthy moment, Clark invited drivers to prepare for the race.
Clark expressed her enthusiasm to represent Gainbridge, stating, “I’m honored to represent Gainbridge as Grand Marshal of the Indy 500. I’m looking forward to experiencing an iconic piece of what makes Indiana special and being part of the time-honored tradition of ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.’” Her presence added to the list of notable grand marshals, which includes Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.
J. Douglas Boles, president of IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, highlighted the excitement surrounding Clark’s role. “Fans have eagerly awaited sharing the Indy 500 Race Day with Caitlin. Thanks to our partnership with Gainbridge, attendees of the world’s largest single-day spectator event will experience Caitlin’s unique energy, contributing to the global sporting spectacle,” Boles said.
Clark, a leading figure in the WNBA, continues to push for a successful season for the Fever, aiming for the playoffs. Despite missing a game due to injury, she returned to score 22 points and make nine assists against the Golden State Valkyries, leading her team to victory, 90-82.
