Iranian Concerns About Potential Regime Deal

Iranian Skepticism Over Peace Deal

Cameron Khansarinia, chief of staff to the exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, voiced concerns about a possible agreement between President Donald Trump and the Iranian regime. He shared these views on ‘Sunday Morning Futures,’ expressing that while Trump’s ‘maximum pressure’ campaign weakened the regime, the Iranian people doubt that Tehran’s leadership will uphold a lasting peace deal.

Fears of Regime Restoration

Khansarinia warned that such a deal might inadvertently act as a ‘lifeline’ for the current regime, which he claims has oppressed the Iranian population for decades. He stated, “The people in the country with whom we speak on a daily basis, frankly, are nervous. They’re nervous that their regime, which has held them hostage for 47 years, might be thrown a lifeline yet again.”

“We will stop at nothing short of complete freedom,” he added, noting that Iranians do not recognize the regime’s authority over any agreements.

Distrust in the Regime’s Intentions

Khansarinia stressed skepticism towards the regime’s intentions by citing its history of deception and violence: “It’s proven that for 47 years. They’ll lie, they’ll cheat, and they’ll steal to get what they want to stay in power, to continue to murder Iranians and, unfortunately, Americans.”

U.S. Stance on Negotiations

President Trump informed that discussions are progressing “in an orderly and constructive” manner, emphasizing the importance of caution to avoid errors. He maintained that the blockade will stay effective until a verified and signed agreement is established. Trump’s messages underscored his administration’s resolve to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

An administration official hinted at possible accommodations on sanctions if Iran reciprocated on uranium enrichment concerns, highlighting ongoing discussions.

The Crossroads of Decision

Khansarinia framed the situation as a pivotal moment for action: “Do we want to finally tip this regime over the edge? Do we want to empower the Iranian people to take their country back, or do we want to sign a deal with this regime that I think we all understand, Iranians and Americans, it won’t abide by?”
