In recent developments, the U.S. military undertook another strike Saturday against a boat accused of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean. This action resulted in the death of three individuals, marking the fourth such attack this week. The total number of fatalities now stands at 205.
The U.S. Southern Command released a statement describing the vessel’s involvement in “narco-trafficking operations” and its connection to a designated terrorist organization. However, the command did not present any evidence to support these claims.
This strike is part of a prolonged campaign targeting suspected drug-smuggling boats operating in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific. A video shared by the military on social media shows a small boat being struck and engulfed in flames.
The attacks began in early September, with additional strikes reported last Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Trump administration has asserted that the U.S. is engaged in armed conflict with Latin American drug cartels, holding them responsible for the influx of drugs into American communities.
According to U.S. Southern Command, this latest strike was conducted under the direction of Gen. Francis L. Donovan, who is the leading U.S. military authority in Latin America.
