President Trump urged the interim leader of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to dismiss staff members deemed unnecessary. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump mentioned that appointing Bill Pulte would reduce the restrictions typically faced by permanent agency heads.
Trump emphasized that temporary appointments offer increased authority for a limited timeframe. He announced Pulte as the successor to Tulsi Gabbard for the director role, despite Pulte’s lack of national security background.
Rather than seeking Senate confirmation for Pulte, Trump will allow him to serve in the position for 210 days, leveraging Pulte’s previous Senate confirmation for a different role. Pulte, known for his steadfast support of Trump, has been active in highlighting alleged misconduct by individuals and bodies Trump believes oppose him politically.
