Matt Brown, known for his role in Discovery Channel’s “Alaskan Bush People,” has tragically passed away at the age of 42. His brother, Bear Brown, confirmed on social media that Matt’s body was found in a river in Washington state.
According to Bear, their brother Noah identified Matt’s body after authorities recovered it. Bear expressed disbelief, stating, “I would have never suspected he would have hurt himself, honestly.” He shared his concern about Matt’s struggles, mentioning previous worries about possible overdose.
Bear revealed that the injury seemed to be self-inflicted, although the coroner’s confirmation was pending. He emphasized the need for respect towards the family’s privacy amid their grief, particularly urging fans to be considerate of their mother, Ami Brown.
Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a man in the river. Witnesses described the man sitting in a shallow section before being swept away by the current, with a firearm reportedly found nearby.
Matt starred on “Alaskan Bush People” from 2014 to 2019 before stepping away to address his addiction issues. In a 2016 interview with People, Matt discussed his alcohol struggles, saying he began drinking more heavily and saw potential problems ahead. He credited his parents’ support for helping him confront his addiction and seeking treatment.
After completing a 35-day rehabilitation program, Matt gained new insights into his life, turning his challenges into strengths. He spoke about learning valuable lessons and emphasized the importance of finding one’s way after getting lost in life.
The Brown family has faced previous tragedies, including the death of family patriarch Billy Brown in 2021. Billy passed away following a seizure at the age of 68, and his loss was a profound one for the family. Bear paid tribute to Billy’s legacy, honoring his life lived off the grid and his teachings.
