AEW TBS Championship Update: Willow Nightingale’s Injury and Upcoming Matches

3 weeks ago 0

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has announced a significant update concerning the TBS Championship. Willow Nightingale, a prominent AEW star, has been forced to give up her title due to an injury. The injury has also caused her to withdraw from the Owen Hart Tournament.

A new TBS Champion will soon take the stage. The announcement came during the Saturday edition of “Collision,” revealing that AEW will host a Survival of the Fittest match for the first time to crown the new champion.

“Survival of the Fittest is a multi-person elimination match typical to Ring of Honor. Competitors are removed from the match upon being pinned. The last competitor standing wins.”

The match format was recently seen at Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor, where Athena retained her women’s world championship. AEW will decide the new TBS Champion on the upcoming July 1 episode of “Dynamite.” To find contenders, six preliminary matches will occur beforehand.

Willow Nightingale’s reign as champion lasted 140 days. She triumphed over Mercedes Moné to seize the title at “Dynamite: New Year’s Smash.” This marked Nightingale’s second time holding the championship.

In other AEW news, Konosuke Takeshita maintained his AEW International Championship title against Daniel Garcia. The match was part of AEW Double or Nothing.

However, post-match chaos erupted when Takeshita faced aggression from Rocky Romero, Brian Cage, Lance Archer, Trent Baretta, and a returning Jack Doyle. Takeshita’s seeming departure from the Don Callis Family has heightened tensions.

Meanwhile, Jon Moxley, providing commentary, was attacked by Shane Taylor, Shawn Dean, and Carlie Bravo. Fellow Death Riders Marina Shafir also entered the fray. “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong rushed in to aid Takeshita, continuing the clash as “Collision” ended.

Recent “Collision” match results included:

  • Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly defeated Rocky Romero, Trent Baretta, and Lance Archer, retaining the AEW World Trios Championship.
  • Tay Melo and Anna Jay survived against Megan Bayne and Lena Kross in the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship eliminator match.
  • Hazuki defeated Maya World.
  • Lee Moriarty triumphed over Tim Bosby.
  • Jon Moxley and Pac defeated Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo.
  • David Finley and Clark Connors overcame Austin Gunn and Colten Gunn.
  • Brian Cage and Jack Doyle bested Jimmy Wild and Tommy Mars.
  • Konosuke Takeshita defeated Daniel Garcia.
