A Mother’s Decision for Her Family’s Future

2 weeks ago 0

Sasha Goreshtein chose to have a second child with her ex-partner after they separated, considering it the right decision for her family. Goreshtein met the father of her children in her early 30s. Their closeness grew quickly, leading to a pregnancy six months into their relationship. However, by the time their son approached his second birthday, the couple had separated and lived apart.

Despite their separation, Goreshtein and her former partner remained connected. Entering her late 30s, she contemplated her long-term family goals. “My decision to have a second child was carefully considered,” she informed Newsweek. She knew she wanted two children and recognized the importance of her timeline.

Faced with these factors, she felt it was natural to have another child with her son’s father, who remained a devoted parent. Goreshtein acknowledged the uncertainty in their romantic relationship, describing it as “on-and-off.” Yet, she noted their effective co-parenting. “I understood that our romantic relationship might not persist, but our co-parenting could remain stable and respectful.” She emphasized the trust in their commitment to their child.

Her choice wasn’t about perfect relationships but about providing consistency for her son. “It wasn’t about perfection but about what felt stable for my son’s future,” she stated. A key consideration was giving her son a sibling. “I have a sister who is my closest confidant,” Goreshtein shared. “I wished for my son to have a similar connection.”

Goreshtein also considered insights from a childhood friend who was an only child. Her friend expressed feeling isolated in an unstable family environment. “Her perspective deeply affected me,” Goreshtein said. While she recognizes families differ, she hopes a sibling offers her son lasting connection and support.

Reflecting, she acknowledges the challenges on this journey, particularly during her second pregnancy. “It was difficult,” Goreshtein revealed, “but it revealed a strength in me I hadn’t fully recognized.” She shares her story on Instagram (@hostwithsasha), aiming to support others in similar situations.

Seeing her children together confirms her decision. “Looking at my sons brings a profound sense of satisfaction,” she noted. She advises others considering unconventional paths to prioritize what suits their circumstances. “Focus on decisions rooted in love and stability for your children’s long-term well-being,” she advised, stressing adaptability when life deviates from the plan.
