Angel Reese made WNBA history on Monday night with a standout performance against the Los Angeles Sparks. Representing the Atlanta Dream, Reese was a dominating presence, collecting a record-breaking 26 rebounds in the game. This achievement set the new WNBA record for the highest number of rebounds in a single match.
Reese did more than set a single-game record. She also surpassed the record for most rebounds in a season. During the game, her 452nd rebound eclipsed the previous record held by A’ja Wilson. Reese extended her total to 458 rebounds, and with the season ongoing, this number might still grow.
Teammate Allisha Gray expressed her admiration for Reese’s skills, stating, “I don’t think in my life I got more than 10 rebounds. That’s just talent. I’m in awe watching her rebound.”
Reese shared insights into her mindset during the NBC/Peacock postgame show. She described her approach as claiming every shot opportunity, attributing her success to observing and learning from legendary players like Tina Charles.
In only her third season, Reese has two of the top three rebounding seasons in league history, with Wilson having the other. Her performance was crucial in the Dream’s 78-71 victory over the Sparks, where she even outperformed her teammates, grabbing 26 rebounds against their combined 22.
Opponent Nneka Ogwumike, in her farewell season, delivered a double-double performance with 16 rebounds. The Atlanta Dream, bolstered by Reese’s efforts, improved their record to 25-13. With six games remaining, they stand as one of the top contenders for playoff spots in the WNBA.
