CBS News has dismissed Scott Pelley, a veteran correspondent for ’60 Minutes’. This decision follows a rebellion Pelley staged in the newsroom. He criticized Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, accusing her of undermining the broadcast. Pelley also questioned the qualifications of newly appointed executive producer Nick Bilton.
In a related legal development, former ABC News producer Samira Said has sued CBS News chief correspondent Matt Gutman, ABC News, The Walt Disney Co., and an ABC bureau chief. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming sexualized workplace comments from Gutman. Said alleges Gutman discussed the appearance of another female correspondent while she worked within an otherwise all-male team. The complaint highlights that Gutman and other crew members rated the woman’s looks, creating an uncomfortable environment for Said.
The lawsuit describes a second incident during a movie-release press event. Said and Gutman disagreed on leaving the work site, leading Gutman to make a comment suggesting Said had an after-hours date. Said found this remark inappropriate, as it trivialized her professional judgment.
Said’s lawsuit also accuses ABC and Disney of discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, and failing to accommodate medical conditions. She reports experiencing severe psychological symptoms after covering the Uvalde school massacre. Despite psychiatrist recommendations for accommodations, management didn’t allow a restricted work schedule.
Following a reassignment to weekend desk shifts and covering hazardous events, Said was terminated during a routine meeting on March 5, 2025. She seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys’ fees, and a jury trial. The allegations remain unadjudicated.
Gutman initially joined CBS in January as part of the first major on-air hire under Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss. Announced to report for ‘CBS Mornings’, ‘CBS Evening News’, ’48 Hours’, and ’60 Minutes’, Weiss commended Gutman’s fearless and energetic approach to journalism.
Fox News Digital requested comments from Disney and CBS. Disney stated that executives had not yet reviewed the complaint. CJ Womack, associate editor at Fox News, continues contributing to media coverage, highlighting journalism’s impact on politics and culture.
