Washington Commanders linebacker Leo Chenal will miss Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks after sustaining a neck injury. He was carted off the field but was seen moving and gesturing, indicating movement in his extremities.
Chenal was injured during the second quarter at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., while tackling Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson. The injury occurred as Chenal led with his head down, causing neck compression. He collapsed and was unresponsive briefly. Medical staff quickly attended to him, and he was placed on a spine board and taken off the field.
The Commanders confirmed that Chenal would not return to play. Coach Dan Quinn was visibly concerned as he absorbed the moment.
This incident follows a similar situation with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, who suffered a serious elbow injury the previous week against the Dallas Cowboys. He was also carted off the field, causing unease among players and fans.
Despite recent setbacks, the Commanders have shown resilience. They led the Seahawks 24-10 well into the second half. Marcus Mariota, stepping in for the injured Daniels, has successfully thrown three touchdown passes, contributing to the team’s performance.
Jayden Daniels is expected to return within a month, as surgery is not deemed necessary for his dislocated elbow.
