Court Order Leads to Removal of Trump’s Name from Kennedy Center

Workers have begun removing Donald Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. The decision follows a federal appeals court ruling that rejected an attempt to keep Trump’s name on the building. The name had been added after a unanimous board vote in December.

Senator John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana, expressed his opinion on the matter in an interview. He stated that living public officials should not have buildings named after them. Kennedy proposes a rule to prohibit such naming efforts, emphasizing that public money should not be used to promote individuals.

President Donald Trump has been actively pushing to rename the Kennedy Center after himself. He has also shown interest in renaming other federal buildings in Washington D.C. since his return to the White House.

“The White House sees it differently, but you can’t spend public money to promote yourself,” Kennedy said during a CBS News’ “Face the Nation” appearance.

Recently, an advertisement promoting Trump appeared on various networks, funded by the federal government. Senator Kennedy suggested that living politicians should be barred from having a building named after them.

Kennedy humorously added, “I may end up with a sombrero on my head, but I also think we ought to have a rule that no politician can have a building named after him when he’s alive.” This statement alludes to Trump’s mockery of political figures using AI videos.

Trump has attempted to rename several buildings after himself, including the Kennedy Center. However, federal judges have blocked many efforts made by the center’s board, appointed by Trump, to add his name to the building. The court ruled that only Congress has the authority to change the name of the center.

The U.S. Institute of Peace experienced a similar situation last year when Trump’s name was added. Former officials filed a court motion to prevent construction crews from adding Trump’s name to the building’s exterior.

Trump has also suggested naming New York’s Penn Station and the D.C. area’s Dulles Airport after himself. He proposed these changes as conditions for a funding deal earlier this year. Trump has even floated the idea of a “Trump Promenade” project along the Potomac River.

“They want to call it the Trump Promenade, but I don’t know if I want to do that, but it’s going to be beautiful,” Trump mentioned.
