The Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) has rolled out a comprehensive list of policy priorities aimed at regaining control of Congress in the upcoming sessions. The caucus’s economic agenda consists of eight key pillars under which numerous pieces of legislation have been introduced.
Among these pillars are significant efforts to enhance affordable care, fair taxes, and access to education for women and families. More than sixty legislative proposals are included, addressing a range of issues from promoting homeownership to limiting price gouging by grocery stores.
Notable bills include a collaborative proposal by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) for federal investment in local childcare networks and family childcare homes. Legislation from Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) seeks to establish a $2,000 tax credit for adults caring for elderly family members, while Rep. Grace Meng (D-N.Y.) aims to expand the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to cover hot food purchases.
Chair of the DWC, Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.), has expressed criticism towards the GOP’s One Big Beautiful Act, emphasizing a need for a financial future prioritizing mothers and working families. Current data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that women’s earnings are at 83.6 percent of men’s, with a lower unemployment rate for women at 3.9 percent compared to men’s 4.4 percent.
President Trump’s recent pledge to offer a $5,000 dividend to every adult American if Republicans maintain congressional control has also stirred discussions. The DWC encompasses Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s (D-Mich.) dividend proposals offering $250 monthly to adults aged 19 to 67, along with a $2,000 baby bonus for new families.
Tlaib stated that her proposals are designed to ensure economic security and combat corporate profiteering. “People deserve the right to economic security,” she noted, pointing to the importance of protecting livelihoods from corporate greed.
In related business and economic news, Federal Reserve board member Lisa Cook commented on the inflationary pressures arising from increased demand for artificial intelligence, affecting the broader economy. Meanwhile, GOP candidates in Iowa, including Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Ashley Hinson, expressed support for President Trump’s announcement of a new steel plant in the state.
Nvidia has decided to expand its stock buyback plan with a $150 billion increase, marking a record repurchase amount in corporate history. Furthermore, GOP representatives have requested the reimposition of sanctions on a Russian-owned refinery in Serbia, reflecting ongoing Republican scrutiny of the administration’s foreign policy.
Additional developments involve tariff reductions by the U.S. and China on $60 billion worth of products following talks between President Trump and President Xi Jinping.
