Jon Gruden, known for leading a team to Super Bowl victory, brought his spirited enthusiasm to an Ohio rally with President Donald Trump. Gruden appeared alongside Ohio Sen. Jon Husted, who seeks re-election, and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
During the event, Trump remarked on Gruden’s presence, acknowledging his surprise at Gruden’s political stance. A protester briefly interrupted, but was removed while the crowd chanted support.
Gruden, who coached both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Raiders, was introduced by Husted at the rally. Their friendship dates back to their days as teammates at the University of Dayton in 1985. Gruden expressed pride in his Ohio roots and shared his fondness for the state.
“I love you guys,” Gruden stated, emphasizing his Ohioan heritage. “I came back because I’m from Ohio.”
He also endorsed Husted, praising his friend’s skills and work ethic both on and off the field. Husted, with a history in Ohio politics and sports, played a significant role in Dayton’s 1989 championship team. Gruden highlighted Husted’s resilience and urged the crowd to participate in early voting.
The rally underscored the personal connections and mutual respect between Gruden and Husted, emphasizing Gruden’s support for Husted’s campaign.
