Almost 30 years have passed since the discovery of numerous human bones and bone fragments at Fox Hollow Farm, the estate of suspected serial killer Herb Baumeister. New questions are emerging about the events that took place there. The Hamilton County Coroner, Jeff Jellison, believes that a key individual has not been fully honest with investigators.
Jellison has engaged in conversations with Mark Goodyear, a significant figure linked to the case. ‘I need Mark to be truthful with me,’ Jellison emphasized. ‘We have spoken a few times, but he has not been honest. I ask him questions knowing the answers, and he does not pass the test.’
The task of identifying the Fox Hollow Farm remains is not complete. Many questions about the victims remain unanswered.
In ABC News Studios’ documentary, “Return to Fox Hollow: New Victims, Darker Secrets,” Jellison explores new theories, potential accomplices, overlooked evidence, and important witness statements concerning the suspected serial killer, Baumeister. The documentary follows “The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer,” released in 2025.
Herb Baumeister is suspected of murdering at least 25 men in Indiana. Goodyear, who was questioned by police in 1996, claims to be the sole survivor of Baumeister. Despite being questioned, Goodyear has faced no charges related to the case and denies any involvement in the disappearances.
Goodyear knew many people from gay nightclubs and could assist investigators in identifying the victims. He has shared his experience of encountering Baumeister at a gay bar in Indianapolis in 1994. Baumeister allegedly introduced himself as “Brian” during their first meeting, and Goodyear later described their disturbing encounter. His information was crucial to advancing the investigation.
Investigators believe Baumeister frequented gay bars, luring men to his home when his family was away, committing the murders, and disposing of the remains on his property. A significant amount of human remains, around 10,000 bones and bone fragments, were recovered from the vast estate.
The scope of the investigation is vast. Jellison notes the significant challenge in identifying the remains and suspects that someone might have assisted Baumeister. He questions how one person alone could commit such an extensive series of crimes.
Efforts by Jellison have led to the identification of victims in 2023 and 2024. He emphasizes the possibility that some families might not even know their loved ones went missing or were victims at Fox Hollow. Comparing it to the World Trade Center recovery effort, he explains that at Fox Hollow, investigators have less information to identify the victims.
Jellison encourages anyone with a missing loved one possibly connected to the case to reach out. His office experienced an influx of nearly 500 messages after the documentary aired.
