Georgia investigators are seeking victims of Julius Hunter, a convicted sex offender from Florida. DNA evidence ties him to three sexual assaults involving women lured through Craigslist job postings.
Charges in Georgia
Julius Hunter, age 42, faces charges of rape, aggravated sodomy, and kidnapping concerning a 2016 incident involving a 19-year-old woman at a Clarkston apartment complex. The DeKalb County grand jury indicted him on August 11.
Before this, Hunter pleaded no contest in a separate 2021 Florida sexual battery case with his former girlfriend. Investigators suspect a series of assaults may connect to Hunter.

Investigator Brandi Rogers of the DeKalb County District Attorney’s office mentioned that Hunter’s New Jersey upbringing suggests possible victims there.
Hunter’s DNA also links to two more assault cases in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties from 2016 and 2017. No charges have been filed for these cases due to difficulties in recontacting the victims.
Deceptive Job Offer
The 19-year-old believed she was going to a $300 babysitting job when a rideshare brought her to an apartment near 700 Jolly Avenue on July 27, 2016. There, instead of children, she encountered Hunter and another man.
As she tried to leave, Hunter allegedly detained and assaulted her for hours. He eventually let her go the following day. She fled on a cab, instructing the driver to contact 911. She later met police officers at a gas station and underwent a sexual assault exam at a hospital. 
Investigators continue their search for the second man in the apartment, who remains unidentified and uncharged.
DNA Connection from Florida Case
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation processed the victim’s sexual assault kit, creating a DNA profile of the assailant. Initially, there was no match in the national database, CODIS.
Hunter’s 2021 Florida conviction became the breakthrough. Authorities then collected his DNA, which matched the profiles in the Clarkston assault and two other Georgia cases.
The arrest occurred in Fort Lauderdale on August 13, shortly after the indictment. Hunter faced extradition to Georgia and was booked on August 20.
At the time, Hunter was serving an 11-year probation in Florida when Georgia authorities indicted him. A spokesperson for the Georgia Public Defender Council, which represents Hunter, declined to comment.
Craigslist Connection
The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office reported that similar Craigslist ads were used to lure victims. Jobs advertised included babysitting, modeling, dancing, and massages.
Investigator Rogers expressed concern that the frequency of attacks suggests further unidentified victims.
Ongoing Investigation
The Georgia Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Task Force continues investigating these cases, with a focus on identifying new victims.
