Hayden Panettiere’s Death Ruled Accidental Due to Drug Toxicity

South Carolina authorities have officially determined the cause of Hayden Panettiere’s death. The actress died from the toxic effects of multiple drugs, and her death has been classified as accidental. This announcement ends weeks of public speculation surrounding the former star of Heroes and Nashville.

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Panettiere’s death resulted from the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. Officials determined the manner of death was accidental after an autopsy found no evidence of trauma or foul play.

A 911 call reported cardiac arrest on August 16 at approximately 1:51 p.m. First responders arrived at a residence on Easley Bridge Road in Greenville, where Panettiere was found in cardiac arrest. Despite advanced life support measures, resuscitation efforts failed, and she was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.

Investigators noted Panettiere had been temporarily staying at the residence. A parallel investigation by the coroner’s office and the Greenville City Police Department followed her death. The autopsy found no traumatic injuries that contributed to her death, allowing investigators to rule out violence or external causes. Toxic drug effects were ultimately determined to be responsible.

Drugs Identified in Toxicology Findings

The coroner’s report identified fentanyl as a primary substance in Panettiere’s death. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid with a high potency, playing a significant role in the overdose crisis in the United States. 4-ANPP, a chemical linked to fentanyl production, was also present.

In addition to fentanyl-related compounds, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine were contributors. Alprazolam, sold as Xanax, is prescribed for anxiety disorders. Methocarbamol is a muscle relaxant, while quetiapine treats bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and major depressive disorder. Officials did not disclose details about dosages or how the drugs entered Panettiere’s system.
