Five students from Lincoln-Way East High School were removed from a varsity football game on Friday night. They were reportedly involved in racial harassment and displayed offensive behavior towards Homewood-Flossmoor fans in the student section.
Statements from School Officials
According to a release from H-F District 233 Superintendent Jennifer Norrell and Principal Clinton Alexander, the students chose to partake in disrespectful and racist actions toward Homewood-Flossmoor students seated in the bleachers. The statement commended staff members who acted quickly to safely remove the individuals, ensuring the safety of other students in attendance.
Efforts are underway to work with Lincoln-Way East leadership and local authorities. The district is considering all available options, including legal avenues, to prevent such incidents in the future.
Response from Lincoln-Way East
A statement on Lincoln-Way East’s website acknowledged that a group of five students demonstrated inappropriate and offensive behavior at the game against Homewood-Flossmoor. Importantly, the students involved are not part of the football team.
Lincoln-Way East extended a sincere apology to the Homewood-Flossmoor community. The statement emphasized that the students’ actions did not align with the values and standards expected at Lincoln-Way.
The involved students have been identified, and the school will follow established disciplinary procedures.
