Indiana Fever Secure Victory Against New York Liberty

In a thrilling basketball game held in Indianapolis, Kelsey Mitchell led the charge for the Indiana Fever with a stellar performance, scoring 28 points—20 of which came in the first half. Caitlin Clark complimented Mitchell’s efforts, adding 22 points and distributing 10 assists. Together, their contributions powered the Fever to a 106-92 win over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night.

The Fever have shown impressive form lately, triumphing in seven of their last nine outings. This victory came on the heels of a passionate pregame speech by coach Stephanie White, who voiced concerns about distractions overshadowing the WNBA. Her comments seemed to ignite the Fever, who executed an outstanding shooting display, hitting 59% of field goals and a remarkable 79% from beyond the arc. By halftime, they surged ahead to a commanding 64-46 lead over New York.

Contrary to last week’s game against reigning WNBA champions Las Vegas, where Indiana saw a significant lead diminish, this time they maintained their advantage. Mitchell’s accuracy was evident as she converted 11 of her 16 field goal attempts, with her and teammates like Clark and Sophie Cunningham, each sinking four three-pointers. Cunningham contributed 12 points, while Aliyah Boston chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds.

On the Liberty’s side, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu each tallied 19 points. Jonquel Jones also made an impact, securing 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Indiana decisively took control with a 15-7 run towards the end of the second quarter, expanding their lead to 54-37. Although the Fever’s three-point accuracy dipped during the third quarter, New York’s attempt at a comeback was short-lived. The Liberty closed the gap to 66-57 with a little under seven minutes left on the clock. However, Indiana regained their footing with Mitchell’s three-point play and Cunningham’s crucial three-pointer in the final moments of the period, restoring their lead to 87-67.

From there, Indiana ensured the Liberty never got close again, sealing the victory comfortably.
