The Indiana Fever are currently facing a tough period, having lost two consecutive games. Many fans are expressing their dissatisfaction with Head Coach Stephanie White’s management of Caitlin Clark’s playing time this season.
In a recent 100-84 defeat to the Portland Fire, a heated exchange between White and Clark was captured on video and shared on social media. Although the details of the conversation remain unclear, Clark was noticeably kept on the bench in favor of rookie Raven Johnson. The video quickly gained traction, amassing over 2.4 million views within 24 hours, and generated nearly 1,000 comments and 600 shares.
‘White has to go. As a devoted Fever fan, I will not watch anymore. We were planning on getting tickets costing $600+, but that will not happen now. Christy Sides did a better job. Stephanie is pathetic!’ one fan exclaimed.
Many fans echoed this sentiment, urging for White’s dismissal and advocating for Clark to seek opportunities with other teams. Comments criticized White’s strategies, blaming her for the team’s underperformance.
One fan noted, ‘White needs to go. It’s her coaching and defense and offensive plays that aren’t working. CC isn’t the only one underperforming under this system.’
Another remarked, ‘Stephanie White is off her rocker…she killed the game to her own detriment. She was blaming Clark instead of bringing the team together with a plan…because she had no plan. SW lost both games because she did not prepare.’
With eight games into the season, it seems early for such drastic reactions. However, if tensions between Clark and White persist, it’s likely that the Fever’s management will need to address the situation soon.
