53 minutes ago 0

The investigation into the deadly crash of a Learjet in Greenacres, Florida, is progressing. Federal investigators have recovered a portion of the aircraft’s engine. The crash, which occurred on Sunday, resulted in the deaths of all nine individuals on board.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that excavation at the crash site began on Wednesday. This was after utility workers removed water and eliminated other hazards. The Learjet 60 had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at approximately 10:37 a.m. on Sunday. It was heading for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when it crashed just before 1 p.m. in Palm Beach County.

During the excavation, investigators uncovered a piece of one engine. Debris from the wreckage was also discovered on the roofs of nearby buildings. Earlier in the investigation, parts of the aircraft’s left tail elevator were found. This component is crucial for controlling the pitch of the jet.

NTSB member Thomas B. Chapman emphasized the importance of recovering even small pieces of wreckage. He noted that these could provide vital evidence for understanding the crash.

The crash caused a massive explosion just nine miles from Mar-a-Lago. Weather conditions at the time were severe, with heavy rain and thunderstorms sweeping across the region. An air traffic controller had advised the flight crew about moderate precipitation in the area. The crew was directed to alter their flight path, heading toward a waypoint near Naples, Florida. During this deviation, they reported worsening weather conditions, including icing and turbulence.

The NTSB is focusing on weather as a key aspect of the crash investigation. Among those who perished were Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children, the children’s nanny, and a couple, Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. The two pilots aboard were Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras and Capt. Jeffrey Scott Gregory.

The investigation continues, with efforts to locate the cockpit voice recorder noted. The findings could be crucial for understanding the final moments of the flight. Updates from the investigation will be shared as more information becomes available.
