Jordyn Tyson, a wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints, is facing a rocky start to his NFL career. Selected eighth overall in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Tyson might miss up to two months due to a hamstring injury he sustained during training camp. This setback was reported by NFL Network.
The 22-year-old, who played college football at Arizona State, injured his hamstring in a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Saints head coach Kellen Moore, now in his second season, indicated that Tyson could be out through the beginning of the season. As it stands, there’s a chance Tyson could miss around five games.
Tyson’s injury drew considerable attention on social media, with fans speculating about the extent of his absence. Reports suggested he sought multiple medical evaluations to assess the injury’s severity.
Assuming the two-month recovery period holds, Tyson would aim to return by Week 6. This is when the Saints face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Following that game, they are scheduled to play in Paris, part of the NFL’s International Games.
While Tyson had previous hamstring trouble during his time with the Sun Devils, Moore dismissed claims that the current injury is related. According to Moore, the injury was due to an accidental slip and push incident, unrelated to Tyson’s past issues. “This is something that could happen to any player,” Moore explained.
Before his injury, Tyson was actively participating in training camp, adjusting well to his new team. Moore praised his performance, describing him as having played “really good football”. He acknowledged the challenges in preseason and training camp, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of sports injuries.
Coach Moore is focusing on building upon the Saints’ successes from the latter part of last season. This was when Tyler Shough, a second-round draft pick, became the starting quarterback. With a full offseason to prepare, Shough is expected to lead the team as the official starter.
New additions to the Saints include Tyson, who stood out among scouts with a breakthrough 1,101-yard season in 2024. Despite hamstring-related setbacks in 2025, he managed 61 receptions, 711 yards, and eight touchdowns in nine games for Arizona State.
The Saints also extended Chris Olave’s contract and signed Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year, $48 million deal. Alvin Kamara’s return further strengthens the team’s backfield. Tyson’s focus remains on his recovery, with hopes of rejoining his teammates as the regular season approaches.
