First Ballots Mailed

The 2026 general election begins today as the first mail ballots are sent out. North Carolina initiates this process by distributing absentee ballots across all 100 counties. This occurs while President Donald Trump appeals his executive order limiting mail voting to the Supreme Court.

Missouri Congressional Maps

The Missouri Supreme Court recently ruled against using the state’s newly redrawn congressional map for this year’s elections. This decision affects plans by Republicans, as Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver would have lost his seat. The ruling requires a referendum on the map to be added to the November ballot, ensuring the state’s fall elections will use previous district lines.

Maryland’s Redistricting Measure

The Maryland Supreme Court has mandated a Democratic-backed congressional redistricting amendment to be included on the November ballot. This decision overturns previous court rulings that blocked the measure. The ballot summary must, however, be revised as per the court’s direction.

Trump Appoints Acting Army Secretary

President Trump announced Adam Telle as the acting Army secretary following Dan Driscoll’s resignation amid reported tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Telle, currently the assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, has over 20 years of experience working with Republican senators and had served as Trump’s chief Senate liaison during his first term.
