The Knicks will host a watch party for 3,000 fans outside Madison Square Garden during Game 5 of the NBA finals on Saturday. This comes after skipping a previous event due to a disagreement with the city and the Police Department over security measures. The Knicks have secured three wins in the best-of-seven series against the San Antonio Spurs, and a victory on Saturday could end their title drought of over 50 years.
While celebrations have led to some arrests and injuries to police officers, most have been incident-free. For Games 3 and 4, the Police Department implemented a ‘frozen zone’ around the Garden, requiring screening at checkpoints. The Game 5 watch party will reintroduce this zone, though details on timing and extent are pending. The game starts at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time in San Antonio.
