During the New York Knicks championship parade, team owner James Dolan indirectly questioned the loyalty of Mayor Zohran Mamdani as a Knicks fan. This comment followed a recent public disagreement between the two over the organization of championship watch parties.

Oakley’s Lawsuit Dismissed

The legal dispute between former Knicks forward Charles Oakley and Madison Square Garden (MSG), along with its owner James Dolan, was once again dismissed. This marks the third dismissal of the lawsuit, which dates back to February 2017, when security personnel removed Oakley from MSG. The incident led to his arrest, although charges were later dropped. Oakley sued for false imprisonment and defamation.

MSG’s Response

“For more than nine years, Mr. Oakley’s lawyers have pursued claims they knew were false,” said MSG. “Those claims have now been dismissed by the Court in their entirety — for a third time.”

MSG stated its intention to take legal action against Oakley’s attorney, Douglas Windsor, accusing his firm of engaging in frivolous litigation.

Legal Proceedings and Response

Judge Richard J. Sullivan ruled that the case appeared more like a public relations effort than a valid legal claim, citing a lack of a plausible legal foundation under federal pleading standards. Oakley’s legal team disagrees with the decision, expressing hope for further consideration by the Second Circuit Court.

Charles Oakley, standing at 6’8″, had a significant career with the Knicks, playing over a decade, making the 1994 NBA Finals, and earning All-Star recognition. Despite a lingering feud with Dolan, Oakley continues to support the Knicks, attending several playoff matches during their recent championship run.
