A mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona resulted in nine people being injured, according to police reports.
The incident transpired early Sunday morning around 2 a.m. in the downtown location known for its bustling nightlife, bars, and restaurants, specifically in the 100 block of East Congress Street. Officers on patrol heard gunfire and responded quickly.
According to Frank Magos of the Tucson Police Department, officers immediately ran towards the sound of the gunfire, encountering the suspect at the scene. Despite repeatedly commanding the suspect to comply, officers ended up shooting him. The suspect was transported to the hospital and is suffering from life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed that no officers sustained injuries during the confrontation.
The nine people wounded were given immediate medical attention by officers prior to being taken to the hospital. It was reported that most victims suffered from wounds in their extremities and all are adults.
Authorities are actively seeking public assistance for more information regarding the incident and have described the location as a significant crime scene.
