Mike Lindell, known for his stance against the 2020 election results, has filed a lawsuit against election officials in Minnesota. He claims they altered the parameters of a recount in the GOP gubernatorial primary held this month.
Lindell was defeated by state House Speaker Lisa Demuth, trailing by approximately 45,000 votes. He initially pledged to fund a full hand recount and audit for the race at a cost of $825,000. However, the deadline for the payment passed with no transaction from Lindell.
In a phone interview with NBC News, Lindell asserted his refusal to proceed with payment stemmed from learning the recount would target only ballots cast for either himself or Demuth, instead of encompassing all ballots within the seven-candidate field.
“The scope was changed drastically,” Lindell expressed. “I need clarity on the full recount process.”
As of now, Lindell’s legal actions seek to address perceived irregularities in the recount plans. The outcome of the lawsuit could further impact recount norms in future elections.
