Members of the Navajo Nation showed commitment to voting by organizing rides for neighbors amid challenging conditions. Flooding had rendered many roads impassable due to a weekend storm, making access to polling locations difficult.
Chief poll judge J.J. Dawes at Rock Point, Arizona, highlighted the community’s efforts. “We had people risking their personal vehicles to go out and pick them up,” Dawes said. The Arizona Secretary of State’s office, through communications director Calli Jones, mentioned working with local organizations to maintain voter access.
Jones noted the collaboration with Navajo DOJ and voter advocacy groups to address accessibility challenges caused by the storm and flooding.
