Police in Northern California are actively investigating the fatal shooting of a 40-year-old New York Times executive. The shooting involved his in-laws and occurred in a parking lot over the weekend, according to officials.
Officers discovered Jonathan McKinsey, a Dublin, California resident, with gunshot wounds in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed in a police release. McKinsey held the position of Director of Engineering for New York Times Games and had been with the company for over three years.
Saturday afternoon, a Dublin police sergeant witnessed the incident while driving near the local sports complex. He noticed a man lying on the ground in a parking lot, the victim was later confirmed to be McKinsey. During this time, police dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about the shooting.

Police identified the shooters as McKinsey’s in-laws, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77-year-old residents of Dublin. They were arrested nearby on suspicion of murder and have been booked into Santa Rita Jail. Authorities believe there are no additional suspects, and there is no threat to public safety.
The Dublin Sports Grounds were temporarily closed during the investigation but have since reopened to the public. The investigation into the motive behind the shooting and the events leading up to it continues.
