1 hour ago 0

A woman armed with knives attacked two individuals in Times Square on Monday afternoon before being shot by police. This violent event took place just before 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue.

Authorities described the attacker as emotionally disturbed. She stabbed a man and a woman in the area before running north toward an NYPD substation. Police confronted her there while she brandished two knives.

Officers attempted to use a Taser to stop the woman. However, she continued to advance on them with the weapons, leading to police firing at her.

All three involved—the two victims and the suspect—were taken to hospitals. The exact conditions of the individuals were not immediately available.

The police asked the public to avoid the vicinity of West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue due to ongoing investigations and potential delays. Authorities stated there are no signs that the attack was related to terrorism. There was no confirmation about any injuries to NYPD officers.

Police planned to address the media in a news conference later on Monday.
