President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are set to meet with leading AI company executives at the White House. This meeting comes as lawmakers face mounting pressure to address the rapid advancement of AI technology, which poses potential risks to humanity.
Executives expected to attend include Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Palantir CEO Alex Karp, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. A source familiar with the plans confirmed these attendees.
House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the need to strike a balance between regulation and innovation. In an interview with Fox Business, he warned against overwhelming the sector with regulations, which he believes could endanger national security.
“A balance is what we’re after,” Johnson stated. “I think the conversation tomorrow will help us along that way.”
President Trump recently dined privately with Amodei. The discussion included AI regulations, a subject on which the president has shown resistance despite calls for industry safeguards.
Many of the executives attending Tuesday’s meeting also participated in a state dinner last week with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Some companies, such as Anthropic and OpenAI, have advocated for limiting AI’s developmental speed to handle risks effectively. Conversely, figures like Huang argue that such warnings are exaggerated and regulatory measures could diminish the U.S. competitive edge over China.
Trump himself has dismissed some concerns about AI as a “hoax,” indicating plans to create a federal “AI force.” Senate Majority Leader John Thune did not plan to attend the White House meeting but expressed hope for a productive outcome. Thune also met with Amodei at the Capitol.
Additionally, several tech executives are scheduled for another event in Washington to discuss AI and other subjects. Remarks from Trump and the unveiling of a new online portal for the federal government are expected.
