Rahm Emanuel Considers 2028 Presidential Bid Amid Growing Democratic Field

AUSTIN, Texas — Former U.S. Ambassador Rahm Emanuel is contemplating a potential run for the presidency in 2028, as discussions about Democratic contenders heat up. At the Texas Tribune Festival, Emanuel shared with Fox News Digital his views on qualities that set him apart from other prospects, should he decide to enter the race.

Emanuel identified three key traits: candor, authenticity, and strength. He emphasized the importance of these attributes during an interview with Fox News Digital.

“I’m not gonna tell you what you’d like to hear. I’m gonna tell you what you need to know to make some of the tough decisions ahead,” Emanuel remarked. “We don’t have time anymore. We’re at a tipping point in the country. I think we’ve wasted a lot of time in the last 12 years trying to restore, as I said, a past that’s not coming back. We better think about a future that includes everybody. We don’t have a person to waste or a community to overlook and make the investments that make this country stronger.”

Emanuel has extensive experience in Democratic politics, having advised Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, served as a congressman, been mayor of Chicago, and more recently, acted as the U.S. ambassador to Japan under President Biden.

He believes his experience equips him for immediate action if elected president. “On day one, you start getting the job done because we don’t have a day to waste,” he stated.

The path to the Democratic nomination for Emanuel is challenging, with RealClearPolitics polls not yet placing him among the top contenders. The polls currently indicate former Vice President Kamala Harris leading the field with around 25% support from Democratic voters.

California Governor Gavin Newsom follows Harris with 14% support. Newsom made headlines by stating he wouldn’t pursue a presidential run if Harris enters the race.

Beyond Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, former Transportation Secretary, has about 13% support, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is at nearly 11%, and Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff holds roughly 9% support.
