Real American Freestyle (RAF) has seen a rise in popularity since its inception last year. The league was founded by the late Hulk Hogan, Chad Bronstein, Izzy Martinez, and Eric Bischoff to promote professional freestyle wrestling across the United States and globally. Notable champions like Wyatt Hendrickson and Kennedy Blades have been part of RAF’s success story.
Recently, RAF made headlines as Bronstein and Martinez discussed with MMA Fighting about involving NFL legend Ray Lewis in a match before the year ends. Although a deal isn’t finalized, discussions are promising.
Kurt Angle, Olympic gold medalist and former WWE star, shared his thoughts on Lewis’s potential in RAF. Speaking to OutKick Dropkick for Gambling.com, Angle doubted Lewis’s success against elite opponents despite his wrestling background. “I don’t know if he’s going to be able to do it,” Angle stated, emphasizing that every Olympic-style wrestling match is genuine.
Despite being 51, Lewis previously excelled as a Florida state wrestling champion before focusing on football. Angle had a brief stint with RAF as a commentator before departing due to budget cuts, acknowledging the organization’s potential akin to UFC.
Angle expressed optimism about RAF’s future, highlighting its global reach with events in various countries, including Russia and India. He noted wrestling’s popularity overseas, especially in Eastern Europe and Asia, envisioning RAF’s rise as a dynamic organization.
RAF plans to expand by signing wrestlers worldwide, aiming to emulate UFC’s success. Real American Freestyle broadcasts live on Fox Nation, with RAF14 scheduled in Las Vegas on Oct. 23.
