Scottie Scheffler’s Dominant Victory at FedEx St. Jude Championship

Scottie Scheffler demonstrated impressive skill at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, securing victory by an eight-stroke margin over Si Woo Kim, who finished in second place. This win in Memphis, Tennessee, was significant for Scheffler, who had endured five runner-up finishes this season.

Speaking with CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis, Scheffler expressed relief and satisfaction with his performance. He remarked, “I’ve had some close calls this year. I feel like I’m playing well, but little things haven’t gone my way.” Despite encountering a setback, when a shot ricocheted off a sprinkler and ended up in the water, Scheffler maintained focus.

He shared his mindset, saying, “Going into today, I just wanted to do my best and execute. I stayed in it and bounced back, and I was able to relax.” This victory was his first since the American Express Golf Tournament earlier this year.

Scheffler’s runner-up finishes included the 3M Open, Cadillac Championship, RBC Heritage, Travelers Championship, and The Masters. Balionis highlighted that this season is statistically his best. Scheffler agreed, stating, “I think I’ve been really consistent. Outside of Amex, I felt like I didn’t play as well early in the year as I could have. I battled my swing but stayed consistent, staying in it each week. That’s what I’m proud of.”

Winning in Memphis brought Scheffler his second title of the season and his 21st career PGA Tour victory. He is now the third-youngest golfer to achieve 21 wins, following Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. His success at the St. Jude Championship propelled him to the top of the FedEx Cup standings, with Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young trailing by 1,447 and 1,690 points, respectively.

Scheffler’s win suggests he might have regained his winning form after previously coming close to victory. He looks forward to competing at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, for the BMW Championship next week.
