Secretary of Defense Discusses Military Changes at Marine Corps Base

At Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth addressed an assembly of junior officers and enlisted leaders. In his speech, he highlighted a cultural shift within the military under the Trump administration, emphasizing a focus on creating a force composed of dedicated warriors.

Hegseth stated, “The ideological clowns are out. The patriotic cowboys are in, with testosterone testing on top.” He has been working to reduce the number of flag officers, achieving a 10% reduction so far in his tenure, with a goal of 20%. However, his actions, particularly the controversial removal of some Black and female officers, have faced criticism across party lines.

Throughout his tenure, Secretary Hegseth has taken countless reckless, partisan actions that have damaged our military. He has ended the careers of dozens of our most accomplished senior officers and refused to explain why. Today’s news should alarm every American, said Sen. Jack Reed, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

In defense of his policies, Hegseth claimed improvements in recruitment and retention among women and minorities, describing the new force as “color-blind” and based on merit. He also spoke out against the media for its portrayal of troop morale and munitions stocks, labeling such reporting as “anti-American” and “treason.” Despite the ongoing conflict in Iran, the Pentagon has not held a briefing since May, even with a supportive press corps.

The event mirrored a previous gathering where Hegseth delivered a similarly partisan speech addressing cultural issues and promoting military traditions. He criticized previous leaders for weakening the military and announced new projects focused on autonomous weapons and innovation. Hegseth emphasized the importance of religious faith within the military, describing it as essential to the republic’s foundation.

Additionally, Hegseth revealed plans to eliminate civilian tenured positions at military academies. This move aims to reform educational institutions to prioritize lethality and readiness. He criticized elite academic institutions for being anti-American and announced the selection of five new colleges to strengthen relationships with the Pentagon in training officer candidates.
