Simulated Smoke Alerts for NBC’s ‘Chicago Fire’ Filming

Residents in Chicago’s South Side will notice plumes of smoke near the Obama Presidential Center on Monday and Tuesday, but there is no cause for concern. The Chicago Alerts social media account informed the public about the use of special effects smoke for a filming project. This will occur near the Obama Center as well as the University of Chicago campus and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on both days.

The Chicago Film Office confirmed that these alerts are related to the filming of an episode of NBC’s “Chicago Fire.” The specific location is on Dorchester Avenue between 55th Place and 56th Street. The episode features a simulated rescue scene with heavy plumes of smoke effects, visible on the rooftop and upper floors of an apartment building on South Dorchester. The smoke will quickly dissipate, minimizing impact to the surrounding area.

Fans of “Chicago Fire” can look forward to its return on NBC for the 15th season on October 7.
