Spain Secures World Cup Final Spot with Win Over France

Spain demonstrated strong defense and confidence, overwhelming France’s attacking trio led by Kylian Mbappé. This victory placed the 2010 champions into another World Cup final by defeating France 2-0 in the semifinals.

Lamine Yamal warned that France should fear Spain, even though FIFA’s top-ranked team was led by renowned players like Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, and Michael Olise. Mbappé entered the match with 20 goals in 20 World Cup games.

Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, emphasized that they played against one of the world’s best national teams, but today, they stood as the world’s best team. Mikel Oyarzabal scored a penalty, courtesy of Yamal’s skillful play that drew a foul. Pedro Porro added a second goal, ensuring Spain’s place in the final for the second time.

said Spain’s midfielder Rodri. Spain will face either Argentina or England in the final in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The French team will compete for third place against the loser of the Argentina-England match.

France’s coach, Didier Deschamps cited Spain’s outstanding defense and technical mistakes as reasons for their loss. Mbappé acknowledged the challenge of Spain’s control over the game.

Spain has impressed with their defensive capability, managing a record sixth shutout in seven matches, only conceding once during this World Cup run. Goalkeeper Unai Simón’s performance further highlights Spain’s dominance, maintaining a streak of 650 scoreless minutes before the quarterfinal against Belgium.

The loss ended France’s streak of six consecutive World Cup victories, a record they matched previously in 2018 and 2022. Oyarzabal’s fifth goal in the tournament gave Spain an early lead following Yamal’s challenge on France’s defender Lucas Digne.

The second goal came when Porro completed a give-and-go with Dani Olmo, leading to a successful strike despite pressure from France’s Dayot Upamecano.

Spain had additional chances to score in the first half, including a free kick after Adrien Rabiot fouled Olmo. Despite France’s solid defenses, including a commendable save by goalkeeper Mike Maignan, Spain’s resilience proved decisive.

Mbappé, sharing the lead with Lionel Messi for tournament goals, noted his responsibilities as France’s captain. He vowed to focus on the upcoming third-place match to enhance his standings, even as Messi continues his quest in the tournament.
