Tennessee’s Successful ‘Happy Hour’ Promotion at Neyland Stadium

2 hours ago 0

Tennessee’s athletic department has found success with its ‘Happy Hour’ promotion for the 2026 football season. The event drew significant attention during the Vols’ game against top-ranked Texas, highlighted by President Donald Trump’s visit to Knoxville.

The university anticipated heightened security and traffic due to the President’s attendance. To manage this, the school decided to open Neyland Stadium’s gates an hour earlier than usual, allowing fans to enter from 9 a.m. ET. This was intended to help fans bypass long security lines, which have caused attendees to miss kickoffs in the past.

Alcohol Promotion Drives Early Attendance

To encourage early arrival, Tennessee reduced concession and alcohol prices by 50% from 9-10 a.m. ET. This strategy proved effective as it led to a large crowd gathering two hours before kickoff. A university spokesperson noted approximately 95,000 units of alcohol were sold, generating $1.3 million in sales. The first purchase was recorded just two minutes after the gates opened.

The approach resulted in an average of 13,571 alcoholic beverages sold per hour.

Continuing the Promotion

The success of the promotion and the turnout impressed Tennessee’s athletic director, Danny White. Through social media, he announced that ‘Happy Hour’ will continue for the rest of the season. Gates will open three hours prior to kickoff, with the special concessions offer available during the first hour.

White expressed his gratitude to the fans, describing them as the best in the country. The Vols will host Auburn with gates opening early for the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff broadcasted on ESPN.

The success of this promotion could inspire other schools to adopt similar strategies. Nothing typifies college football like starting the day with morning-time, half-priced beer specials.
