Texas Law Enforcement Officer Arrested in Mexico for Alleged Shootings

Chad Eberle, an Army veteran and reserve Texas law enforcement officer, has been detained in Mexico on charges related to a shooting in Saltillo. He is accused of killing three individuals and severely injuring his former partner, as he attempted to leave Mexico with his young son.

What Is Eberle Accused Of?

The incident transpired at a residence in Saltillo, Coahuila’s capital. Eberle reportedly visited the home to gain custody of his 3-year-old son, which led to a heated argument. During this dispute, he allegedly opened fire, resulting in the deaths of three people and the critical injury of the child’s mother.

The victims were identified as Ana Laura de León Morín, 44; Laura Jaquelín Morín de León, 22; and Emanuel Montero Gómez, 44, according to La Razon de Mexico. Eberle’s former partner, the 26-year-old mother of his son, sustained serious injuries in the shooting.

An arrest warrant named Chad Eberle, referred to as Chad N, for charges of femicide and aggravated homicide. The Coahuila Attorney General’s Office mentioned the warrant on social media before his apprehension.

After the incident, Eberle fled the scene in a gray Chevrolet Silverado, accompanied by his son. Both the Coahuila Attorney General’s office and the U.S. Consulate were contacted for comments regarding the case.

How Was He Arrested?

Authorities tracked Eberle as he approached the U.S.-Mexico border. He was captured at International Bridge II in Piedras Negras, a crossing point into Eagle Pass, Texas. Eberle was taken into custody on the night of August 4 before crossing the border.

Following his arrest, he was moved to the Saltillo Men’s Penitentiary on the evening of August 4. His son is now under the protection of PRONNIF, a child protection agency in Mexico.

Coahuila Attorney General Federico Fernández confirmed the execution of the arrest warrant and the ongoing communication with the U.S. Consulate regarding the situation.

Who Is Chad Eberle?

Eberle has served extensively in Texas law enforcement. He obtained his Texas peace officer license in January 2017 and advanced through various certification levels as recorded by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

His employment record includes positions at departments such as the Northside Independent School District Police Department, Bexar County Constable’s Office Precinct 2, Gregory Police Department, Lockney Police Department, Bangs Police Department, and Santa Anna Police Department.

He served with Northside ISD from 2017 to 2019, then moved to the Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office as a deputy for nearly a year. His role with the Santa Anna Police Department began in November 2025 as a reserve officer, typically serving one weekend monthly.

The City of Santa Anna released a statement about Eberle’s situation, noting their awareness of the charges in Mexico. The department remains in contact with both U.S. and Mexican authorities but refrains from further public comments during the investigation.
