The Debate Surrounding Elon Musk’s Political Views

Elon Musk recently sparked discussions during an interview with The Economist. Zanny Minton Beddoes, the interviewer, challenged Musk with allegations of supporting fringe right-wing parties. Musk responded, stating, “No, I support the normal people.”

Many on the political left view Musk negatively. Some criticize his ideas, but one question he posed stands out: “Here are the principles, and tell me, which of these sound terrible,” he said. “That we should have secure borders? That we should have safe cities? That we should have sensible spending? Which of those three are far-right fringe?”

Having grown up in poverty and facing eviction from 34 homes, I learned to seek commonsense solutions from lived experiences. Both political parties often neglect the disenfranchised, focusing on their power. For 20 years, I’ve been an independent looking for practical solutions for the working class.

Safety and future wellbeing of all children is a priority. Goals like secure borders, safe cities, and sensible spending seem practical for their futures. If figures on the left, such as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson, advocated these principles, many on the left might agree. However, current trends such as police defunding make it unlikely they will.

Musk’s name, reminiscent of President Trump, often triggers anger from the left. It is important to remember the Democratic Party’s historical stand against discrimination. Yet, now, some on the left engage in hate and cancellation. Differing views become hostile disagreements.

Four years ago, I addressed this in my book, “The 56: Liberty Lessons From Those Who Risked All to Sign the Declaration of Independence.” The call to erase Founding Fathers from history is concerning. Learning from history is vital, whether it’s good or bad. Canceling American history is not the answer.

The times are polarized, discussion and civility are disappearing. Without embracing common sense and pragmatism, societal progress is at risk. Musk’s question is crucial for national survival. If we aim for peaceful coexistence and protection for the underprivileged, it is an issue we must tackle now.
