Universal Studios took swift action after discovering an unauthorized copy of its film, The Odyssey, had been leaked over the weekend. In response, the studio issued a firm warning expressing its commitment to protecting its intellectual property.
“We became aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols,” the studio stated. “We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.”
The leak involved a high-quality copy of the Christopher Nolan film, shared on the social media platform X. The post was viewed over 2.1 million times before a takedown notice was issued. The account responsible for the leak was suspended within three hours after it appeared on Saturday at 2:25 p.m. Pacific, as reported by Variety.
The Odyssey has been drawing massive audiences, remaining a top choice for moviegoers during its second weekend. The demand for advance tickets was so high in June that it caused the AMC app to crash, with reports of wait times reaching an hour.
In its second weekend, the film generated $87 million, according to data analytics company Rentrak, which monitors box office sales.
