Toddler Falls from Jersey Shore Boardwalk Ride, Prompts Safety Investigation

This week, a terrifying incident occurred at the Jersey Shore when a young child fell from a popular boardwalk ride, prompting her aunt to take immediate action. The event took place on the Sky Ride at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights.

According to reports from the Asbury Park Press, the 2-year-old girl fell from the ride at around 7:40 p.m. before it began moving. She landed near the boardwalk’s edge and on the sand.

While the ride was stopped, a 3-year-old boy who was with them remained in his seat. Casino Pier staff quickly deactivated the attraction. Firefighters used a ladder to help the boy down. The Sky Ride sits approximately 10 to 12 feet above the boardwalk.

Fire Chief Tim Farrell mentioned that the girl fell onto an entrance platform before landing on sand. Emergency medical services evaluated her shortly after the incident. Both the girl and her aunt were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for assessment.

The Seaside Heights Police indicated the ride seemed to be in proper working order, with no apparent issues. Nevertheless, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs is conducting an investigation into the event. They oversee the inspections and licensing of amusement rides.

The Sky Ride, constructed by Borvig, has been a fixture at Casino Pier since its opening in 1983, as noted by amusement park resource Coasterpedia.

This incident at the Jersey Shore is part of a series of recent safety scares at amusement parks across the nation. Notably, in Colorado, a woman was reportedly ejected from a roller coaster, suffering serious injuries. Furthermore, in Texas, riders were left suspended 200 feet in the air when a ride was stopped after a passenger used a cellphone.
