Tom Homan Opposes Calls to Abolish ICE Amid Record Border Enforcement

Tom Homan, a key figure in border security, has criticized progressive calls to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He argues that ICE plays a crucial role in enforcement as records are set for arrests and deportations. Homan notes that 70% of detainees have criminal convictions.

ICE has been instrumental in rescuing over 150,000 children from human smuggling operations. Homan warns of the risks if the agency were to be dismantled.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that ICE deported more than 2,000 known or suspected terrorists since January 2025 when President Donald Trump took office.

ICE has apprehended over 2,150 known or suspected terrorists from January 2025 to September 2026, with 2,015 of them deported. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin emphasized the importance of ICE’s role during the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

ICE agents continue to demonstrate their duty to protect the nation. Recent operations include high-profile arrests like Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez, a Mexican national suspected of leading a plot targeting a UFC event. Alvarez overstayed a visa and later gained DACA status. ICE detained him following his arrest.

Another notable arrest involves Felipe Linares De Oliveira Dell Aquilla, a Brazilian national and former commander of terrorist groups. He was captured in North Carolina with weapons and was wanted on charges in Brazil. ICE detained him, pursuing additional charges.

Four members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang, admitted to charges linked to a 2024 Bronx shooting, entering the U.S. illegally between 2022 and 2023.

As the nation approaches the 25th anniversary of 9/11, which claimed nearly 3,000 lives, the focus remains on preventing future large-scale attacks. This tragic event led to significant changes in U.S. security policies, establishing DHS in 2002 and ICE in 2003. The anniversary honors the victims and first responders and reflects on continued efforts to safeguard American soil.
